We are talking about the benefits of dance classes for preschoolers! We talked about the physical and intellectual benefits. Now this video is about the emotional benefits.
If you are like me I learned early on that dancing and singing were emotional outlets. I need those things in my life to help with my mental health. When I am not able to sing and dance on a regular basis I feel stuck. I am so thankful that I get to dance around with my adorable students every week!
Dance is an emotional outlet. It can serve as a way to get emotions out so that your child is not stuck inside their feelings. This can help regulate their behavior as well. And dancing is fun! It releases stress, helps us relax and it feels great!
Dance also boosts self-confidence. When a child accomplishes a new skill they feel proud of themselves. If they also have a chance to perform in front of an audience, this also will increase their self-esteem. In my classes I always make sure my students have some kind of performance opportunity so they have a chance to shine and have their special day!
Dance teaches kids that it is okay to make a mistake. They learn from their mistakes and keep going. It also teaches the positive side of hard work. That if they work hard they can achieve their goals. Dance of course also promotes creativity. Students are encouraged to explore and try new things. And then they learn that their ideas have worth and meaning.
Dance also improves social skills. In a dance class the students are all a part of creating something special together. They learn to empathize and to be understanding. They learn to work as a team and cooperate. They learn better communication skills, respect and they will make new friends. I love when I start a new class and I see all the little faces smiling at each other and making new connections. It’s so special.
This all helps children become better people and they learn to process the world in a better way. As a result of a creative outlet such as dance children will be more regulated, able to handle stress, and be respectful of others. This could also help deal with the negative things children deal with such as bullying or even anxiety and depression.
An activity such as dance can be so powerful in a child’s growth and development. We now understand the amazing physical, intellectual and emotional benefits that a dance class can have.
